Fried Ravioli

fried ravioli 13

FINALLY!  I did it….Successfully made and photographed Fried Ravioli!

I have been trying to do this post since October or November.  This Fried Ravioli even made my Top 5 Epic Fails of 2013.  I tried a couple of times but had “issues”…Daylight Savings Time, trying to cook too many things at once, and a really BAD day that ended with this….

2013 fails 046

I gave up!  It just didn’t seem like it was going to happen.

Fast forward to late January…

I was doing my monthly menu planning for February and came to Valentine’s Day.  I wanted to make a special meal for the whole family (my husband and I went out the day after Valentine’s). Since Fried Ravioli is a family favorite, and I hadn’t made it since November, I decided to give it another try.

Valentine’s Day came and one of my daughters suggested I make just a few for pictures while it was still light and cook the rest later.  That’s exactly what I did!

I do want to make it clear…this recipe is NOT that hard!  I have made it successfully several times but when it came to making it specifically for the blog….I just kept having trouble.  I’m probably committing some horrible “food blogger blunder” by admitting all this too you.  I really CAN cook and don’t usually have these kinds of problems but every now and again these things happen.

Here’s the Recipe:

  • 3 Cheese Ravioli – uncooked -frozen or refrigerated
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

**If using frozen ravioli, allow to thaw before beginning **

Place bread crumbs in shallow bowl

In another shallow bowl, pour milk

Heat oil in a small frying pan over high heat

Start with about 1/2 cup oil and add more if needed during frying

ravioli

One at a time, dip ravioli first in milk then in bread crumbs, coating thoroughly

Place coated ravioli in hot oil

Depending on size of pan, fry 4-5 at a time

Fry on one side until lightly brown then turn

Usually this only takes about 1 minute

Reduce heat to medium or medium high as needed to avoid burning

**Remove as soon as they are golden brown…if they “puff” too much the cheese will squirt out….trust me on that one***

Remove from pan and drain on paper towel

Place on oven proof plate and keep warm in 200 degree oven until all are done and ready to serve

One more…

OK, so the wind was blowing and I struggled a little getting the pictures this time…

But Thankfully…

The sauce washed out of my white dolly

The family enjoyed a delicious Valentine meal with Fried Ravioli

AND…

I got good pictures!

I love ravioli, but I don’t think I have ever had them fried. But who wouldn’t love something fried, right! Thanks

I used to have those melted accidents all the time. Then I found out about Product of Gir. Love their spatulas and my frying days with them and my Dreamfarm tongs I will never go back to those issues again.

Ohhh my word. YUM. Is it bad that the thought of all the cheese squirting out is making these sound EVEN MORE delicious? 😀

No, it’s not bad at all! We had one that did that so we were “forced” to eat it right away! SCORE!
