Special Memories with Special Friends

This is a picture of our vacation last year.  We went to Florida to visit some very dear friends we hadn’t seen in six years.  We used to visit them at least once a year, then we moved to Texas.  Circumstances and distance just got in the way and before we knew it six years had passed!

Last fall we were blessed to be able to visit them again.  The last time we saw them our children were all very young Six years changes a lot of things and we wondered what the dynamic would be like after so long.  Their youngest daughter had no memory of us at all and our son barely remembered them.

Everyone got along wonderfully!  It was absolutely amazing to us the similarities in our children.  Our oldest two are quiet and reserved, our middle two are so alike it’s scary and the youngest are two peas in a pod.  We were blessed to spend a week with them at their home and promised we were NOT going to let six years go by again without seeing them.

About a month ago they called and said “the dad” would be in our area on business and they were all coming to Texas!  We couldn’t wait!

I will admit, I was nervous about “entertaining” them.  All the “fun things” to do are only open on weekends this time of year and they had to leave on Saturday!  What would we do?  Would they be bored?

Do you know what the best thing about good friends is?  You don’t have to be doing anything!  Just being together is fun.  We spent the days talking, laughing, playing games and staying up WAY too late watching a movie marathon.

As it turned out, the day they arrived I received the GAME OF LIFE game with new career cards.  The GAME OF LIFE game has been around since 1960.  I remember as a kid playing it with my family and friends and loving it.  My kids have loved it as well.  It’s fun to pretend to have a career and do all the “grown up” things in the game….like go to college and pay bills.

These two were SUPER excited and could hardly wait for me to open the box before they started playing.  They loved the new career choices!  Of course, that’s no surprise.  After all, Hasbro conducted a survey of four hundred children and featured their top picks.

What are they….

#GameofLife

Veterinarian, Singer, Fashion Designer, Secret Agent and Video Game Designer, to name a few.  I asked my son which one he was and he told me the doctor, although he added he really wanted to be the Video Game Designer.  “The doctor makes more money but the Video Game Designer is way cooler!” I was told.

His friend got just what she wanted….Veterinarian.

They also loved that when adding children there was the possibility of triplets!  Wow!  A Video Game Designer with triplets….I don’t even know where to go with that.

They had fun for hours even though no one managed to get triplets.  The game was pretty close but in the end the Veterinarian won.
