Making Changes and Yoplait Plenti

In the last six months I’ve had some pretty serious health issues.  Only those who know me “in real life” know about them because I just don’t usually share personal stuff here on the blog, until today.

About six months ago, I was diagnosed with a dissected carotid artery.  If you’re like I was, you probably have no idea what that means.

In a nutshell, it means my carotid artery (just under my jaw line) had begun to tear on the inside and form a pseudo-aneurysm. This causes diminished blood flow to the brain and a very high risk of blood clots going to the brain.  It also means you have a very sweet (young and somewhat nervous) Nurse Practitioner call you and, as calmly as possible, explain to you that you need to go the ER…right away!

Thank the Lord, it wasn’t as serious as it could have been and I didn’t require surgery, only medication.  After several visits to various specialists and now months of follow-up I’m excited to say the situation is greatly improved and stable.  Evidently, these things heal rather slowly and I’ll need to have it checked again in six more months.

Through this process I’ve had three different doctors tell me the same thing….

You need to be exercising and eating more healthy

Great! (Said in my sad, sarcastic voice)  Two things I don’t really enjoy.

Nevertheless, last night my husband and I took the first step toward this.  We joined a gym.  Yes, we even got the family membership.  My husband knows I’ll be more likely to actually go if he or someone else goes with me.  I’m thankful he’s committed to encouraging me in this journey and willing to make these changes as well.

One of the things we got with our new membership was an hour with a personal trainer to evaluate our lifestyle…great!  (again with the sad, sarcastic voice)

We scheduled our meeting and the first thing he told us to do was record everything we eat for the next couple of days….great!  (again…well, you get it)

You know when someone is going to see what you’ve been eating it makes you a lot more aware of how good or not so good it may be.  I also knew we were having fried chicken for dinner (don’t judge…baby steps and it was already on the menu).

Fortunately, I was at Kroger the other day and picked up some new Yoplait Plenti Greek yogurt.

Now, I like yogurt but sometimes ordinary yogurt just doesn’t do the job. Delicious, yes. Satisfying, not so much. It can leave me wanting more.  I always add a little something to it…like granola, nuts or something with a little texture.

Yoplait created Plentí and reinvented yogurt. They start with Yoplait Greek Yogurt, then add just the right amount of wholesome ingredients. With Plentí, yogurt’s more filling and more fulfilling. They put more in.  I get more out.

Plenti comes in a variety of flavors:

  • Plenti – Black Cherry
  • Plenti – Blueberry
  • Plenti – Coconut
  • Plenti – Peach
  • Plenti – Raspberry
  • Plenti – Spiced Apple
  • Plenti – Strawberry
  • Plenti – Vanilla

I purchased Blueberry, Strawberry and Raspberry, because I like the berries.

By blending creamy Greek yogurt with fruit, whole-grain oats, flax and pumpkin seeds, Plentí delivers a snacking experience that’s packed full of goodness. Plentí is Greek yogurt reinvented and made more plentiful—more substantial, more satisfying, more fun!  That’s good-for-you, easy to do!

I may have setbacks but at least I’m off to a good start!

Thanks for your encouraging words, Amanda! We’ve gone several times to the gym and it’s been fun so far.

Best wishes on continued good health! Stick with a trainer…I got much better results working out under supervision than going it alone.

Thanks Lydia. We had our first session with the trainer a couple of days ago. He was great and I am VERY out of shape!

It’s never fun when diet and exercise come into play! What a scary thing to have happen though with the artery 🙁
