Baby it’s cold outside…or at least it was.  That’s the thing about Texas, if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it will change!

The week before Thanksgiving it was unseasonably cold.  There’s certain foods I love to prepare and eat when it’s cold.  You know, comfort foods that warm you on the inside and out….like chili, soup or pot pie.

If you’ve been by here very often you know I’m a “homemade dinner” kinda girl, but these last couple of weeks have been a little crazy!  We’ve had all the usual stuff, plus appointments, company, visiting a friend who had a baby and preparing for Thanksgiving….ALL things we love and enjoy (OK, expect some of the appointment, most were at the dentist)  Grandma has been here helping out but then she got sick.  It was time for a little help!

On one (of my many trips, lately) to Wal-Mart I picked up the New Marie Callender’s FAMILY Size Pot Pie.  Several years ago on a trip to California, our family ate at a Marie Callender’s restaurant.  The food was great, so I figured the Chicken Pot Pie must be pretty good.. and I needed something easy.  I don’t often buy convenience foods but my MIL makes the Marie Callender’s individual pot pies for the two of them and she said they were really good.

Besides that, the picture on the box looked really YUMMY!

The day I served the Maire Callender’s Pot Pie just happened to be the day we shopped for our big Thanksgiving meal.  Is it just me or are grocery shopping days THE most difficult days to get a home cooked meal on the table?  Why is that?  I spend half the day planning, purchasing and putting away tons of food, then we call for pizza?  I always feel really guilty about it.

I think the Family Size Chicken Pot Pie was probably one of the easiest meals I’ve ever made on grocery shopping day!

Four steps….

Out of the box

Sit for 5 minutes

Cut slits to vent

Bake 90 minutes!

Yes, it takes an hour and a half to cook…but, I got so much stuff done in that time.  I love a good “walk away and forget it” dish!

The Pie came out of the oven, piping hot and golden brown!  It was DELICIOUS!  Super flaky crust….which I love but find next to impossible to do myself.  Thick, rich gravy and loaded with HUGE chunks of real white meat chicken and tons of veggies…just like homemade.  It really was a one-dish meal. I believe the word my husband used was “phenomenal”.  We also decided it was a wonderful well-balanced option for busy days.

I’m sure there will be plenty more days I’ll be saying #PotPiePlease!

We haven’t tried the family size yet but all of MC’s chicken pot pies, and the dee-licious beef pie are loaded with good stuff and so tasty, you can leave all your prejudices against frozen pot pies behind.

We’re the same way when we go food shopping, it just feels like such a big task that you don’t feel like cooking after all of that. My husband loves pot pie, and I know he would love the new family size! 🙂
