Strawberry Limeade

strawberry Limeade

It rained A LOT here in Texas this spring!  Like, make the national news, amounts of rain.  It was CRAZY!

Yes, there was flooding.  Thankfully, we didn’t have any at our home….just a really “sloshy” yard.  Everyone in the neighborhood had very tall grass because it couldn’t be cut….either it was raining or had just rained and was too muddy.

The rain kept our temps down quite a bit but June has arrived, the weather has cleared and it’s getting hot….fast! It’s over ninety degrees now, most days.  Pretty soon it will reach the 100’s and I’m already looking for ways to cool down.

Everyone knows the best way to beat the heat is a nice, cool, refreshing beverage.  Of course, the colder the better. As a Southerner, I always have ice cold, homemade, Sweet Tea in the fridge but sometimes it’s nice to change things up a bit.

When I shared Lime Poppy Seed Scones and Key Lime Curd, I mentioned we’d made several lime recipes lately. The first was this refreshing Strawberry Limeade.  Fresh squeezed limeade reminds me of childhood summers spent with my grandparents.  The key limes gave it a little extra “tart” without making your mouth pucker.  Strawberries are my favorite summer fruit so they seemed to be a natural addition to this summertime treat.

Adding a little sugar to the rim of the glass makes it kinda “fancy” and gives a little extra sweetness if you need it. (of course you can’t drink from the straw)  This would be a really great “company” drink.  How fun would it be to serve this yummy Strawberry Limeade in frozen Mason jar mugs to friends at a casual dinner or cook out?

Here’s the Recipe:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • enough limes for 1/2 cup juice (about 8 key limes)
  • 2 1/2 cups water (lukewarm works well)
  • 1/2 sugar + extra for glass rims
  • Blender
  • something to juice limes

Slice or cut strawberries into chunks for easier blending

Add juice and strawberries to blender and pulse until smooth

Add sugar to water and stir until completely dissolved.  Room temp water works well.  The sugar may not completely dissolve in cold water

Add water mixture to blender and use a couple of short pulses to blend well

Best if chilled before serving
