The Best Chocolate Frosting Ever

March 14, 2014Danita

fudge ripple cake 051At the risk of sounding WAY younger than I actually am, I decided to name this, ” The Best Chocolate Frosting, Ever”.  I realize that’s quite a claim…and very subjective!  I see other recipes using the claim of “BEST” about this or that and I will admit, I almost always check it out, so I figured I’d give it a try.

It’s a little bit difficult for me to make a determination of “Best” when it comes to chocolate frosing.  Honestly, I love them all!  It doesn’t matter if it’s homemade or out of a can…I still love it.  This recipe came with the Fudge Ripple Layer Cake (pictured above), but it would be good on anything that calls for Chocolate Frosting….after all, it is the Best!

Here’s the Recipe:

  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 5 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons whipping cream (or 3/4 cup milk)

*I often use half and half instead of whipping cream.  It takes slightly less than the amount listed here

Best chocolate frosting ever

Combine sugar and cocoa in medium bowl and set aside

Beat butter at medium speed until creamy

Add sugar mixture to butter alternately with cream

*Begin and end with sugar mixture*

Beat until spreadable

Stir in vanilla

I need to pin this because I have made home made frosting before and it was runny.. this looks really thick! I’m sure it tastes better than the ones they sell at the grocery..
