Skillet Queso and The Ulitmate Chili Bar
Thank you Hormel® for sponsoring the Skillet Queso recipe and providing this coupon for my readers.
Any football fans out there? Yes, No, sometimes? Well, even those who don’t watch football on a regular basis know the “Big Game” is coming up and plan to watch….. even if it’s just for the commercials.
And, if you’re watching, chances are you’re not going to be alone, right? So, you need some FOOD! Because what goes better with football than food? (Ok, in our family food goes with EVERYTHING… seriously, I’m not even joking)
A good hardy sport, like football, requires good hardy food. Football watchers don’t want dainty little sandwiches and cutsie little pastries…. at least the ones at my house don’t. So, save those for another time and serve something hardy and delicious… like The Ultimate Chili Bar.
The Ultimate Chili Bar is not just a bar serving toppings for chili. Instead, it’s a bar where chili IS the topping. Now that’s a good hardy meal! My family was more than happy to try it out a couple of weeks ago.
For my chili bar I served:
- Hot Dogs
- Hamburgers
- Tortilla Chips
- Baked Potatoes
- Skillet Queso
- Chili
You may be thinking… “That sounds like a lot of work!” It can be, however, I have a tip or two for that as well.
#1 – We grilled the hamburgers and hot dogs the day before. I covered them with foil and re-heated them in the oven just before serving.
#2 – I used Crock Pot Baked Potatoes – super easy, set it and forget it recipe
#3 – My daughter made the Tortilla Chips the day before – it’s always nice to have helpers!
#4 – Skillet Queso – 2 ingredients, ready in minutes, loved my ALL! (Even my daughter who isn’t a queso fan liked this one)
#5 – Hormel® Chili – delicious, convenient, many varieties and perfect for recipes, topping or just eating!
Our Chili Bar was a HUGE hit! Although, I should have made more Skillet Queso. My son was scraping every last morsel of it out of the skillet.
Here’s the Recipe:
- 1 can Hormel® Chili
- 8 oz soft, processed cheese (don’t judge…you know you love it)
*Our family prefers the “no bean” chili for this recipe but any variety of Hormel® Chili works great.
Preheat medium size cast iron skillet in a hot oven
*This helps keep your dip warm once it’s done*
Carefully remove and place skillet on top of stove over medium to medium high heat
Add Hormel® Chili and cheese
Stir until cheese is melted and chili is incorporated
Serve immediately… mostly because you won’t be able to wait!
