Easy Belgian Waffles
My twelve-year-old son got a waffle maker for Christmas, so of course, that meant we needed a Belgian Waffle recipe. After looking around a little, I realized many of these recipes call for yeast and require rising time. Now, twelve-year-old boys don’t have a lot of patience when it comes to making waffles with their own waffle maker. I needed a basic recipe that was easy enough for him to make by himself.
He’s now in the process of learning to make this recipe:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 3 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
Separate eggs
Slightly beat egg yolks
Add milk and vanilla to yolks, mixing well
Using highest speed of electric mixer, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form
Add milk mixture and butter to dry ingredients and mix just until combined
Gently fold egg whites into batter
Be careful not to over mix, batter will be lumpy
Although I did mix this a little more. Make sure egg white “lumps” aren’t too large
Cook according to waffle maker directions
We’ve made them together a couple of times and he’s almost ready to make them by himself.
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 3 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Separate eggs
- Slightly beat egg yolks
- Add milk and vanilla to yolks, mixing well
- Using highest speed of electric mixer, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form
- Add milk mixture and butter to dry ingredients and mix just until combined
- Gently fold egg whites into batter
- Be careful not to over mix, batter will be lumpy
- Although I did mix this a little more. Make sure egg whites "lumps" aren't too large
- Cook according to waffle maker directions

Perfect! I’ve been looking for a quick and easy waffle recipe that I can whip up on weekday mornings. I’ve pinned this to my Ultimate *Frugal* Homeschool board as well. Homeschooling moms will LOVE this recipe!

Thanks for asking Amanda! I didn’t realize I left that out. The vanilla is mixed with the milk and egg yolks before adding to the dry ingredients. I changed it on the recipe. Thanks again for bringing that to my attention.

How timely! My own 12-year-old decided today that he HAD to make Belgian Waffles from scratch. Which we just did – I can attest to the ease. Let’s just say that it was a very good exercise in learning to follow instructions! Thanks for the recipe.

Whipping the egg whites makes all the difference in these waffles! We just introduced our son to waffles or faffles as he calls them and he is in love!

We love waffles at our house. Your recipe is slightly different then mine, I’m going to try. I’ve never separated the eggs before, but it sounds like a really good idea. Pinning for later. Thanks for sharing.
