Waffle Maker for Christmas
It’s time to pack up the Christmas decorations, store them away and enjoy the gifts we received under the tree. What was your favorite gift?
We all got something we really wanted but our son’s was possible the best. What he really wanted to see under the tree was…… A Waffle Maker! Isn’t that what every twelve-year-old boy wants? Ok, maybe not..but here’s how it happened….
Right after Thanksgiving, as we do every year, we asked our children to make a Christmas list. Our son readily complied with our request, posting it on the front of the refrigerator when it was complete. It had typical “twelve-year-old boy” stuff on it, mostly football related. A couple of days later however, we were doing something, I’m not even sure what, but it must have triggered in his mind waffles, because he exclaimed, “I know what I want for Christmas…a waffle maker!” Taking pen in hand, he rushed over to the list and added it to the bottom of the list, in a different color ink.
That evening, when my husband (his dad) was getting something our of the fridge, the different color ink caught his eye. Upon reading what it said he laughed and asked, “The boy’s asking for a waffle maker for Christmas?” “Apparently, he is,” was my simple reply.
A day or so later, my husband was talking to his mom on the phone about Christmas presents for the kids. He mentioned the waffle maker and she thought it was hilarious, and decided to get it for him! She asked if maybe it should be a “family” gift, but my husband assured her, it should be strictly for him.
What brings a young boy to ask for a waffle maker anyway…besides the obvious fact that he LOVES waffles and we didn’t have a waffle maker? Well, we traveled for three years (with my husband’s ministry) and stayed at countless hotels, all serving breakfast. His favorite thing to have at the hotel breakfast was…you guessed…WAFFLES! He’s wanted a waffle maker ever since we stopped traveling and this year he finally got one!
