Sausage Gravy

Sausage Gravy is a Southern breakfast tradition!  My son and husband LOVE some sausage gravy and Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits.

It isn’t anything close to healthy….it’s just delicious.  It is a “stand alone” breakfast but we like to serve it as part of a big breakfast with Breakfast Potatoes, bacon, eggs and grits.

Here’s the Recipe:

  • 1 lb pork sausage
  • 6 tablespoons flour
  • 3 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

In a large skillet cook sausage until done

Remove sausage from skillet and set aside, leaving drippings in pan

roux

Measure 6 tablespoons of dripping and discard leftover

If you don’t happen to have enough dripping make up the difference with butter or margarine

Add flour to drippings

Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat for a couple of minutes, but don’t allow flour to brown

add milk to roux

Add milk and stir until smooth

Add salt and pepper

Bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, until thick – heat may need to be reduced

When gravy is thick return as much of the sausage as you like to the gravy and heat through

*Don’t have sausage or need a smaller recipe?  See Breakfast Gravy
