Honey has been enjoyed around the world for centuries as a natural sweetener and delicacy.  For example, in ancient Israel Torah teachers allowed their young students to lick honey off their slates as an object lesson, teaching them that studying and memorizing the Torah would be a sweet experience.

When I see a beautiful jar of honey with the honeycomb I’m reminded of the verse in Psalm that tells us God’s word is “Sweeter also than the honey and the honeycomb.”  I love honey, especially with the honeycomb.

As a pastor’s family, some of our “sweetest” moments in life are those spent with our church “family” and friends, usually around food.  I wanted to make a dish that would represent the sweet fellowship shared with these folks. This Honeycomb and Brie Crostini was perfect.

You may be asking, “What is Crostini?”  Good question.  It’s just a fancy name for toasted baguette slices brushed with olive oil.  These were also topped with melted brie and honeycomb.  Crostini make the perfect party food because they’re inexpensive, work with a variety of dips or toppings, and can be served warm or at room temp.

This Honeycomb and Brie Crostini was inspired by a recent date night dinner with my husband.  One of the special entrees that evening was a chicken dish topped with brie cheese. I loved the creamy texture of the brie and thought the “buttery” flavor would pair well with honey.

It’s important to remember, the quality of your end product is often only as good as the individual ingredients.

For honey with honeycomb, I chose Don Victor Honey, found in the Hispanic Food Aisle at my local Wal-Mart.

Don Victor Honey is premium quality honey with a beautiful amber color and superior taste…not too strong, not too mild.

I also chose Don Victor Olive Oil.  I love this beautiful bottle and it goes perfectly in my kitchen.  Nothing better than a functional, decorative ingredient!

Here’s the Recipe:

  • 1 loaf baguette bread
  • Don Victor Honey with Comb
  • Brie cheese
  • Olive Oil

Slice baguette about 1/2 inch thick

Brush with olive oil and toast under broiler until slightly golden brown

Top with a slice of brie

Return to oven and broil until cheese is melted

Carefully remove honey comb from honey

Using a small, very sharp knife slice thinly

Cut each slice in half (or third depending on how big your bread is).  It only takes a tiny piece of honeycomb for each slice, otherwise it may be too sweet for some…I however am not one of those “some”.

Place one piece of honey comb on each bread slice

 Enjoy the Sweetness!

These look amazing! I would never have looked in the Hispanic aisle for it, though! 🙂 I always think of Samson and his riddle about “out the strong comes sweet” 🙂
