Coffee Rubbed Steak
At our house we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to grill!! Now, by “we” what I really mean is my husband is the “grill master” so he does the outdoor grilling and the rest of us enjoy the eating part.
He first started grilling a little over thirteen years ago when I was pregnant with our son. About six weeks before he was due I came home from a prenatal appointment with the news that I was on bed rest until he was born. Admittedly, a little “forced” bed rest at times sounds quite relaxing, but then I had a six-year-old and a four-year old and it didn’t sound like a reasonable request. Family and friends pitched in and we made it work.
My husband’s contribution….he bought a grill. Our gas grill (which I used) had seen better days and for some reason my husband decided he’d like to try some good old fashion charcoal grilling…bed rest gave him the perfect “opportunity”.
He’s had LOTS of practice in the last thirteen years and one of our family’s favorite grilled meats is this Coffee Rubbed Steak. It’s a quick and easy rub that uses things you most likely already have and it can be used on any cut of steak. For those who may be saying, “But I don’t like coffee” let me assure you, it doesn’t taste like coffee. Trust me, we’ve served it to several people and everyone has LOVED it as much as we do.
Here’s the Recipe:
- 2 tablespoons finely ground dark-roasted coffee
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- Worcestershire sauce
We usually just make a couple of batches and store it in a small airtight container to be used when needed
In a small bowl mix dry ingredients together
Sprinkle each steak with the Worcestershire sauce
Rub steaks on both sides with Coffee Rub
Amount you use is up to you. We like ours pretty spicy so we coat them heavily.
Grill to your liking!
We serve with Grilled Corn on the Cob and Baked Potatoes!
- 2 tablespoons finely ground dark-roasted coffee
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- Worcestershire sauce
- In a small bowl mix all dry ingredients together
- Sprinkle each steak with the Worcestershire sauce
- Rub steaks on both sides with Coffee Rub
- Amount you use is up to you
- Grill to your liking
- We usually make a large batch and store in an airtight container to have it ready to use anytime.

Hmmm…. I’m up for anything that involves coffee! Will have to give this a try and see if I can achieve “grillmaster” status!

I need to show this to my husband! He’s a grill master, too! I don’t think I’ve ever turned on the grill. That’s his domain! 🙂 Pinning!
