Who’s getting ready to grill for the July 4th holiday? We are!
I love holidays and spending time with family and friends. I’ve also mentioned, I enjoy “themed” food so it just seemed appropriate to share Red, White and Blue Burgers in preparation for the holiday.
Red, White and Blue Burgers use any number of red and white foods but pretty much always feature Blue Cheese. For our “white” we chose white pepper, grilled onion, and mayo. Our “red” is represented by tomato and ground red pepper. So, what sets this burger apart? Instead of topping the burger with Blue Cheese (although we added a little there too) we mixed it into the meat before cooking.
My husband, The Grillmaster, helped me come up with this delicious recipe. One of his Christmas presents last year was a burger grilling cookbook and though this recipe didn’t come from the book, we applied some of the principles we’ve learned from it….like mixing in seasonings with the meat instead of just sprinkling them on top.
A second thing we learned is to use a spoon or your thumb to make a small indention in the middle of the patty before placing it on the grill. This keeps the burgers from becoming dome-shaped.
For those who love a bargain as much as I do, another grilling tip for this weekend. Stop by The Home Depot and pick up a Kingsford Original Twinpack.
Starting today it is on sale for $9.88! Yes, two (18.6 lb) bags of Kingsford Original Charcoal for only $9.88! That’s over half off! What a great deal! I know my husband will be stocking up.
Red, White and Blue Burgers and a great sale…..perfect for the July 4th holiday weekend!
Here’s the Recipe:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic
- 1/2 cup Blue Cheese crumbles
- 1/2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- dash ground red pepper
- onion slices
- Optional: mayo, ketchup, pickles, lettuce
Start by building a fire using your Kingsford Charcoal
While waiting for the charcoal….
Combine hamburger, spices and Worcestershire sauce – It’s best to mix with your hands
When well combined, add Blue Cheese and mix again
Form meat into 8 patties
Using spoon or thumb make an indention in middle of each patty
When coals are ready…
Place burgers and onion slices on hot grates
Cook to desired doneness. We prefer ours well done
Assemble burgers with tomato, lettuce, onion and mayo on your favorite bun
Top with additional Blue Cheese, if desired.
Have a safe and wonderful July 4th!

Great recipe and great tips! I always wondered why my burgers “domed” sometimes, and had no idea how to fix it! Thanks! #client
