It’s going on six weeks now since we joined the gym. Our workouts are still going strong and everyone is still enjoying them.
When we joined, our membership came with a couple of “perks”. First, we each received a session with one of the personal trainers on staff. He was quite knowledgable and very helpful. He helped us set some goals and explained some of the things our bodies would need more of with the added exercise. He (and my aerobics instructor) recommended more protein, specifically drinking something with protein shortly after working out.
Our gym also has a cafe and our second perk was a discount card to get half priced smoothies and shakes for the first month. Let me assure you, we took FULL advantage of that! I would get one every morning after my aerobics class and we’d usually get another one or two if we took the family in the evenings. It was a sad day when our half price ran out….we were hooked on yummy, healthy protein shakes and smoothies.
As usual, my husband suggested I attempt making them at home. I had watched them make ours enough times I figured I would give it a try. All I really needed was a little fruit, milk and protein powder.
Our favorite shake at the gym was “Ultimate Protein” so when I went to Walmart to get protein powder, I chose EAS Complete Protein . EAS Complete Protein is also supplemented with calcium, fiber, vitamins, and minerals so it benefits not just your muscles but your bones and digestive system, too. It comes in vanilla or chocolate… I chose chocolate!
As you know, if you’ve been here on the blog very often, my biggest struggle with eating right is feeling deprived of good food. Protein shakes have really helped. I tried several combinations of fruit but the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Protein Shake is a favorite and my new “healthy indulgence”!
Here’s the Recipe:
- 1/2 cup milk (I used 1% but skim works too)
- 1/3 cup (heaping) sliced strawberries (about 3-4 berries)
- 2 scoops Chocolate EAS Complete Protein Powder
- 1 cup ice
- Blender powerful enough to blend ice until smooth
Place all ingredients in blender
Make sure lid is well secured
Blend until there are no longer chunks of ice
*My blender has an automatic setting for frozen drinks so it blends it perfectly every time*
It’s so thick you can even top with diced strawberries and they don’t sink!
I recommend a nice fat “milkshake” straw or spoon to eat it with!
What’s your healthy indulgence?
- 1/2 cup milk (I used 1%)
- 1/3 cup (heaping) sliced strawberries (about 3-4 berries)
- 2 scoops Chocolate EAS Complete Protein Powder
- 1 cup ice
- Blender powerful enough to blend ice until smooth
- Place all ingredients in blender
- Make sure lid is well secured
- Blend until no large chunks of ice remain
- Top with diced strawberries
- Some blenders have an automatic setting for frozen drinks. If yours doesn't start out by pulsing several times, then blend until thick and creamy
