Pinterest Fail The Rest of the Story
Last week I shared my latest Pinterest success, Garlic & Herb Cheese Bombs, along with Part 1 of probably my biggest Pinterest Fail. Today, The Rest of the Story…..
*Names have been omitted to protect the “innocent”…or guilty, whichever the case may be.
Just to catch you up:
After seeing a post about a “miracle” cleaner and having a very “needy” shower I decided to throw 4th grade science to the wind and try this baking soda, vinegar, blue Dawn concoction.
The instructions said to mix all three in a spray bottle, spray on the shower, let it sit for a few hours, then rinse clean. I had a couple of half empty Windex bottles so I quickly combined them.
As I got out the ingredients that still small voice in my head kept telling me, “don’t do it”. So, I took all the stuff into the bathroom and decided to mix it IN the shower….just in case.
That was the smartest thing I did concerning this little “experiment”.
First, I put the Dawn and baking soda in the bottle, then slowly added the vinegar. Quickly, I put the top on and began to “mix”…..just like the directions said.
Let’s just say…..4th grade science won the day! Sure enough, that stuff was oozing out that spray bottle like you wouldn’t believe! I was VERY thankful I was holding it over the shower.
After a couple of minutes, it slowed down. Ok, “I’ll just spread the stuff around that’s already on the floor of the shower and spray down the sides,” was my thought.
I don’t know if you’ve ever mixed baking soda with anything, then tried to spray it out a Windex bottle….I bet you haven’t, you probably listened to that voice in your head. Bottom line…..it WOULD NOT spray. No matter how hard I pumped that spray bottle it was not coming out.
At this point I decided it was too late to turn back, so I opened up the bottle, sloshed the stuff on the walls and smeared it around as best I could. I’m pretty sure the shower and I had equal amounts of paste on us.
Finally, the bottle was empty, the shower was covered (and so was I) now all I had to do was wait….then rinse it away.
One of those things was much more easily done than the other!
Waiting…not hard.
Rinsing away….next to impossible!
OH MY GOODNESS! That stuff was like plaster on the shower. I scrubbed and rinsed and scrubbed and rinsed and just when I thought it was gone….I had to scrub and rinse some more!
AND.THE.BUBBLES! Do you have ANY idea how many bubbles one cup of dish washing liquid produces? WAY, WAY, WAY TOO MANY! I could have washed dishes for weeks with all those bubbles.
I will have to admit….the shower was quite clean and sparkly when I was done….although, I’m not so sure how much can be attributed to the “cleaner” and how much to the repeated scrubbing and rinsing!
I’m still seeing this all over Pinterest and as I read some of the posts this time I noticed it said to heat the vinegar to boiling before adding and you won’t have an explosion. I don’t know if I’m brave enough to try it again.
My assessment of Pinterest after two attempts:
I’m just “Pinterest Challenged” OR Someone is just laughing their head off every time their idea gets pinned!
I decided it was the later!
After becoming a blogger and relying heavily on Pinterest for traffic my greatest fear is to be someone’s next Pinterest Fail!

That was funny. Sorry for your fail but I have had pretty good luck with pinterest. Laundry soap, fabric softener and several recipies. But thanks for the heads up 🙂

The recipe I used only called for dawn and vinegar. It worked but I have a large shower and I have to be in it to clean it. It was very clean afterwards but the dawn made it very slippery (borderline unsafe). It wasn’t exactly a fail just not what I expected.

Yes Aimee, that was very true! So many bubbles! I may just have to stick to the store bought stuff. Thanks for stopping by!

Amen to that last bit! I’ve tried various Pinterest recipes before, with mixed results. I’m terrified of being someone’s “Pinterest fail” too, so I always make notes in my captions whenever anything in a recipe is unusual or needs further explanation.

I love that story!! I’m sorry it turned out that way. I had an “amazing oven cleaner” fail from Pinterest. It was a HUGE mess!
