National Homemade Bread Day

celebrating national homemade bread

It’s National Homemade Bread Day!

It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about a National Food day.  Because our family LOVES homemade bread…and plenty of not-so-homemade bread…I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

I enjoy making bread but most of my recipes are of the “quicker and easier” variety and we often have specific meals for each one.  You won’t have to be an expert bread maker to enjoy these recipes.

I’ll start with my most baked, most versatile, serve anytime recipe….

buttermilk biscuits

Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits!  Although, I don’t always use buttermilk and they’re still delicious.  You can also make them ahead and freeze…see Frozen Biscuits.

cinnamon rolls close up

No Rise Cinnamon Rolls.  These still take a little time, but are much faster than your average homemade cinnamon roll and can be made into Maple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, too.

Spoon rolls 025

Spoon Rolls are the easiest rolls you will ever make!  If you can use an electric mixer and measure ingredients….you’re set!  I always make them at Thanksgiving and Christmas and sometimes in between.  If you have dough left, Cinnamon Spoon Rolls are great for breakfast.

fry bread 026

Here at our house, Fry Bread is almost always served with chili and recently it’s been made into Indian Tacos.

60 minute rolls

60 Minute Rolls are the newest edition to our homemade bread repertoire.  Fresh, hot yeast rolls in about an hour!

Cornbread - finished

And then there’s Cornbread…a Southern staple!  Served with pinto beans, black-eyed peas or butter beans.

Have a very Happy National Homemade Bread Day!

It all looks so delicious. Not only are you a good baker and a writer, but you are also a good photographer!

Jody, I haven’t tried any with the gluten free flour, sorry. I’ve only baked cookies with it a couple of times and I’m not very good at it. If you happen to try it I’d love to hear how it turns out.

I’ll let you know. My friend has a combination of 3 different flours that you combine to make a gluten-free flour – she said it tastes and acts much like “normal” flour! I’ll let you know!
